Why we're here
Six Parallels South was borne after a chance conversation in Israel in 2012. It became clear the kosher world and the non-kosher world had two entirely different understandings of Australian wine and it was time that changed.
Australia is blessed with exceptional wine regions and kosher drinkers deserve the opportunity to taste what’s on offer to everybody else. Our goal is to provide the kosher market with the same quality wine available to the non-kosher market at the same price.
We’re not reinventing the wheel. We're just pushing it in a new direction.
Being the first
Each vintage, Six Parallels South sources the best grapes available from regions that have a reputation for varietal excellence. This makes us the first multi-regional kosher winery in Australia and it’s something we're proud of. We believe wines are made in the vineyard and that grapes need the correct conditions (known as terroir in French) to ensure they become varietally correct wines in the bottle. Our philosophy is minimal interference and minimal oak so the grapes can do the talking!
What's in a name?
The inspiration for our name came from the geographical location of the South-Eastern Australian wine regions. Located between -32 and -38 degrees of latitude, this ‘super zone’ is situated Six Parallels South of the equator, and it's from within this area where we source our grapes each vintage. Our logo is a graphic interpretation of this super zone. As you follow the image from the top right to far left, the ‘bubbles’ represent the regions and you can map out Northern NSW, down to Victoria and over to South Australia.
Holy wine, Batman!
Under the supervision of Rabbi Mordechai Gutnick and Kosher Australia, our wines are made according to Jewish law. But that doesn’t mean only Jewish people can enjoy them! And because kosher wines cannot contain any animal products our ‘holy’ wines are also 100% vegan.
A modern drop
Our winemaking approach is both modern and traditional at the same time. Our wines aren’t fruity and they aren’t sweet. They're balanced, textural and savoury. Our ‘Early Release’ wines are the types you may find in a bistro in France or a tapas bar in Spain and our premium ‘Single Vineyard’ wines are a true representation of the region they hail from. And whilst our wines are entirely drinkable on their own, they go to the next level when enjoyed with food.
We hope you enjoy drinking them as much as we enjoy making them.
